In addition, activated sludge treatment of municipal wastewater is more advanced than any other biological treatment process in the world.

Some of the most common secondary treatment processes are biological, such as trickling filters, activated sludge, and rotating biological contactors. Secondary treatment also removes more of the suspended solids, usually by biological processes in which microbes consume the organic impurities as food and then convert them into carbon dioxide, water, and energy. Secondary treatment of sewage works by using aerobic bacteria that feed on dissolved and suspended organic matter in the liquid. The sewage enters the aeration tank, where the bacteria begin to multiply and feed on the garbage and waste within. Imported, patented Submersible aeration mechanisms are used that are noise-less and efficient. Submersible aeration mechanisms suck air from the atmosphere and purge it into reactors to support biological processes. As aeration mechanisms are submerged into fluid (sewage), there is no noise. Equalization, aeration, and aerobic sludge digs are provided with submersible aeration mechanisms. The aeration mechanism imparts very high velocity to the liquid around it, causing turbulence and vortexing. Turbulence causes the micronization of air bubbles. The approximate air bubble size is 10 microns. The submersible aeration mechanisms work on the venture principle; suction is created in the equipment, which sucks atmospheric air and purges it into fluid (sewage). We at Lotus have developed a bioculture (LOTUS Biotechnology) that has the capability to deodorize raw sewage when added at the inlet or in an equalization tank. Odors from raw sewage are removed within 5–6 minutes after the addition of bioculture. For appropriate results, the equalization tank needs to have an efficient aeration (mixing) mechanism. Noiseless and Odorless STPs are available in both underground and above-ground types to cater to client needs. Our range of this underground STP is fabricated from stainless steel, FRP, MS, or any other raw materials as per the needs of the clients. They can be used in hotels, hospitals, resorts, and many other commercial sectors for the treatment of sewage water. Our underground STP requires low maintenance and is known for providing harmless water after the treatment process. Installation services are offered by our organization. Underground STPs are also constructed in RCC for large capacities.

The sludge is now activated with additional billions of bacteria and other tiny organisms and can be used again by returning it to the aeration tank for mixing with air and new sewage.

EFFLUENT TREATMENT: DISTILLERIES ZLD

A distillery is a place where beverage-grade alcohol is produced. A distillery makes hard alcohols like whiskey, gin, vodka, rum, etc. The process of making distilled spirits starts off much the same as the process involved in making beer. The process starts by combining ingredients such as grains, yeast, and water. The grains break down and convert the starch to sugar. With the help of the yeast and enzymes, the sugar gets converted into alcohol.

After this process, the spent grains are drained off. The remaining liquid is poured into the still. Alcohol's boiling point is lower than that of water, so it vaporizes first. Then, it is condensed by cooling the vapor and collecting the resulting liquid, which is known as alcohol.

Thin-slope bio-methanated spent wash effluents are the most common effluents in distilleries and agro-chemical industries. The end color has been the challenge. With its very high BOD, COD, and TSS content, which requires an eloborate treatment for attaining dischargeable norms, industries so far have been thriving on primary and secondary treatment. Soon, the norms will eventually reach zero discharge.
